Carp Management in the Murray-Darling Basin: Daughterless Carp Technology

The Murray-Darling Basin Commission is committed to reducing the impact of carp in the Murray-Darling Basin Waterways. The control of carp populations in the Basin’s rivers will be acheived through a range of integrated pest control measures. One technology that offers promise in the long term, and which could be used with other control measures is the “daughterless” carp technology. The MDBC has provided $2.9 million over three years to CSIRO Marine Research Scientists to further develop and test this technology. This builds on the significant investment by the basin Governments in fish management, such as the research undertaken by Fisheries Victoria in modelling the dynamics of carp populations.
